Obituary of Ernest L. Willoughby

Lugoff – Funeral service with military honors for Ernest Linwood Willoughby, 96, will be held on Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Powers Funeral Home with burial to follow in Fort Jackson National Cemetery, Columbia. The Rev. Todd Horton will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Campers on Mission c/o Springvale Baptist Church, 1496 Springvale Road, Lugoff, S.C. 29078. Mr. Willoughby passed away at home surrounded by his family on Thursday, March 16, 2017. Born in Portsmouth, Va., he was the son of the late Ernest Thomas Willoughby and Mary Louise Williams Willoughby. He retired as a Master Sergeant from the United States Army having served in WW II. He also retired from Seaboard Coastline Railroad where he was a machinist. Mr. Willoughby was a member of Springvale Baptist Church and served for many years with the Campers on Mission. The only thing he loved more than his family, was his God and sharing His love with others. Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Juanita Hodges Willoughby; children, Ernest Thomas Willoughby (Mary Lou) of Jacksonville, Fla., Linda Willoughby of Lugoff, Patricia Vanderspiegel (Albert) of Beaufort, S.C., Larry Willoughby (Jessie) of Huntsville, Alabama, and Keith Willoughby (Robin) of Lugoff; 13 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
