Obituary of Charles Perry Ewart

CAMDEN - Funeral service for Charles Perry Ewart, 82, will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff, with burial to follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The Rev. Dr. Ronald Taylor will officiate. The family will receive friends Saturday from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Morningside Presbyterian Church. Mr. Ewart died Wednesday, August 20, 2008. Born in Columbia, he was a son of the late James Knox Ewart Sr. and Myrtle Wingard Ewart. He was a WW II veteran having served in the United States Army and received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He attended Erskine College and is a former President of the Board of Counselors for Erskine College. He also, received the Sydney Algernon Award from Erskine College. Mr. Ewart retired from DuPont after 31 years where he was a supervisor. He was a member of the James LeRoy Belk American Legion Post 17 and the Christian Community Ministries in Camden. He was a founding member of Morningside Presbyterian Church and received Lay Person of The Year for the Providence Presbytery in 2002. He enjoyed old cars and woodworking. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Margie Ewart; children, Charles Perry “Chuck” Ewart and his wife, Jo, of Spartanburg, and Ginger Ewart Guinn and her husband, Frank of Camden; 5 grandchildren, Cameron McMehan, Tripp (Carri) Guinn, Reid Ewart, Lisa (Casey) Wilson, and Mandy (Donald) Gibson; 6 great-grandchildren, West McMehan, Davis & Thomas Wilson, Alex Jeffers, Tripp Minich, and Lillian Guinn. He was predeceased by brothers, James Knox Ewart Jr., and William Cameron Ewart; and sister, Lois Ewart Addison.
