LUGOFF – A service to celebrate the life of Carvel Reid Blakeney, 78, will be held on Monday, January 2, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. at Lugoff First Baptist Church. The Rev. Doug Huntsinger and the Rev. David Robinson will officiate. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall. Memorials may be made to Lugoff First Baptist Church Bus or Sound System Fund, 106 Longtown Road, Lugoff, S.C 29078.
Reid went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 29, 2016. Born on October 1, 1938, in Kershaw, he was the son of the late Carvel and Catherine Cook Blakeney. He proudly served in the United States Air Force. Reid was a proud and loyal graduate and “All In Fan” of Clemson University. He retired from DuPont.
Reid was a Scout Master of Troop 311 who taught and molded many fine young men. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and taught his sons everything he knew and loved about the outdoors. Reid loved God, his church and his Sunday school class at Lugoff First Baptist Church. He was also a member of American Legion Post 17 and the Possum Breeders.
A lover of life, Reid was a Mans – Man, who enjoyed being outdoors, sports, Clemson sports, music, dancing and telling jokes. He never met a stranger and enjoyed conversations with everyone.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Nancy Bell Blakeney; sister and brother-in-law, Virginia and Del Case of New Jersey; children, Carvel and Kathy Blakeney of Lugoff, Rodger and Sharon Blakeney of Lugoff, Jim and Fran Blakeney of Charleston, Bob Blakeney of Charlotte, N.C., and Paul Blakeney of Elgin; and 6 grandchildren.
The family would like to extend a very special thank you to those at the Karesh Wing Rehab that cared for and loved him as we do.
