LUGOFF - A Celebration of Life service for John Albert Ham, III, 65, will be held Monday at 4:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home. Rev. Donnie Dixon will officiate. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. Burial will be held at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, send memorials to The Shepherd Center, 2020 Peachtree Rd. NW, Atlanta, Ga., 30309. Mr. Ham died Tuesday, August 12, 2008. Born in Steeles Tavern, Va., he was a son of Frances Ramsey Ham and the late John A. Ham Jr. He is a Vietnam Veteran who served in the United States Air Force. Mr. Ham retired from EI DuPont and was recently employed with Lowes of Camden. He was a member of the James Leroy Belk American Legion Post 17 and was a former volunteer with the Camden Fire Department. Surviving are his wife of 25 years, Sharon Harvey Hewins of Lugoff; daughter, Kelly Hewins Alkhatib and her husband, Hassaan Alkhatib of Irmo, of whom John thought of as a son; son, Bryan Hewins of Denver, Colo.; grandsons, Benjamin Alkhatib of Irmo, and Jack Alkhatib of Irmo; mother of Camden; sister, Carolyn (Howard) Johnson, Virginia Beach, Va.; nephew, Jerrell Johnson of Virginia Beach, Va.; niece, Kirstin (Tracy) Balenger of Powder Springs, Ga.; and great nephews, Brett, Nicholas, and Brady.
