Obituary of Freddie Leroy Wilson
CAMDEN – Funeral services for Freddie L. Wilson, Sr., 88, will be held Friday at 12:30 pm at Powers Funeral Home, with burial to follow in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. Reverend Sammie Geddings will officiate. The family will receive friends from 11am – 12:30pm at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be to the Marine Corps League of Camden at 2783 Kirkland Cemetery Rd, Camden, S.C. 29020.
Mr. Wilson passed away December 13, 2016. Born in Camden, SC, on July 5, 1928, he was the son of the late Luther E. Wilson and Nellie Capell Wilson Anderson. He served in the Marine Corps during WWII. He was a member of the American Legion Post #17 and the Marine League. Mr. Wilson was a member of First Church of the Nazarene in Camden. He conducted services at Karesh Wing and was a chaplain with KershawHealth. He retired from DuPont and enjoyed bird-watching.
Surviving are his children, Sophia Wilson Ardis of Columbia, Freddie L. “Troy” Wilson (Stephanie) of Camden, Cindy Dinkins (Chet) of Sumter, and Gloria Hannah (Ronnie) of Canton, NC; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Margie Thompson. He was predeceased by a grandchild, Dawn Caulder; sister, Thelma Bullock; brothers, Herbert Wilson, Coleman Wilson, Woodrow Wilson, Mendel Wilson, and John Henry Wilson.
