ELGIN – Funeral services for Viola Nell Richards, 76, will be held Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, with burial to follow in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:30 – 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Richards passed away December 2, 2016. Born in Roanoke Rapids, NC, on February 21, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Percy David Simmons, Sr. and Ruby Lee Kidd Simmons. She was a loving mother and grandmother. Mrs. Richards was a devoted and supportive wife to her husband, as he served in the Air Force for over 20 years. Surviving are her husband of 60 years, Maynard Lee Richards; children, Michael Lee (Jackie) Richards, Tammy (Selwyn) Porter, and Mark Lewis (Gretta) Richards; grandchildren, DeChonna, Shantel, Meagan, Selwyn, II, Corey and Mikey; great-grandchildren, Jakob and Samuel; sister, Iris Hensley. She was predeceased by her brothers, Horace Simmons and Percy Simmons, Jr.; sister, Dorothy Simmons.
