Obituary of Lorraine R. Medlock
LUGOFF- Lorraine Ricketts Medlock, 78, of Lugoff, S.C. passed on November 2, 2016 after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson's Disease. She was born September 5th, 1938 in Danville, VA. She graduated from George Washington HS in 1955 and attended Stratford College. In 1966 she married the love of her life CH (LTC) Ralph E. Medlock Jr. She supported his ministry as a pastor's wife and army wife for 25 years and traveled the world as part of a family ministry team. She was told she would never have children but God had other plans with Ryan born in 1973 and Erin in 1976. As an Army wife the ministry brought her to New Jersey, Washington, D.C., Louisiana, Texas, New York, Stuttgart, Germany, Garmisch, Germany, New Jersey, a second time, Georgia, Alaska and South Carolina. She served as a stay at home mother, office manager of a Russian Import business, the station chief for the American Red Cross in Anchorage, President of the Protestant Women of the Chapel, President of the Officer's Wives Club at multiple duty stations. Her home was always open to stranded soldiers on the Holidays. She loved to cook and cater events on Post as she wore her apron that said, "Army Wife, toughest job in the Army!" She introduced the Living Last Supper, the Angel Care Ministry and Chrismon Trees to the Army Chaplaincy. After a transfer to South Carolina, she began and retired from a career as the office manager for the Pathology Department at Palmetto Health Richland Hospital in Columbia in 2003. She was an active member of Blaney Baptist Church in Elgin, SC.
Lorraine loved her family and loved to spend time at Smith Mountain Lake, VA with her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Minnie Lee Ricketts; her sisters, Marjorie Thomas and Bette Blackwell; and brother-in-law, Thomas James Blackwell. She is survived by her husband, Ralph E. Medlock, Jr. of Lugoff; son, Ryan Medlock (Jennifer) of Chapin; daughter, Erin Goodwin (Mack) of Chapin; grandchildren, Justin Medlock, Mckinley Goodwin, Caleb Medlock, Marleigh Goodwin, Emily Medlock and Rachel Medlock; brother-in-law, Charlie Thomas; and numerous nephews and nieces.
The family will receive friends Friday from 6-8 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Blaney Baptist Church. The Rev. Jacob Helsley will officiate. Burial will be held Monday at 10:00 a.m. in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Blaney Baptist Church WMU and youth programs or The National Parkinson Foundation.
