Obituary of Frank Lee

LUGOFF - William Francis “Frank” Lee, Jr., passed away Tuesday afternoon October 18, after a lengthy and courageous battle with multiple myeloma. Born September 18, 1947 in Greensboro, NC to William F. Lee, Sr. and Olive (McGuirt) Lee, he grew up in Columbia until his father was transferred to Germany with the US Army. This move allowed the family to visit many places in western Europe – inspiring in Frank a passion for travel, one of his greatest joys in life. Graduating from Kaiserslautern American High School, he returned to the States and attended Belmont Abbey College. It was there that he met, fell in love with, and married Pat Mikell. Beginning his career as a financial planner in Jacksonville, FL, Frank and his family moved to Camden in the late 1970’s. He thoroughly enjoyed working with clients and, throughout his career, achieved many professional milestones, including his role as a co-founder and charter member of the BBC. His inimitable laugh could often be heard from the orchestra pit during several of the Fine Arts Center’s musicals as well as the back row of the Camden Community Concert Band where he played drums for many years. Known for both his sparkling blue eyes and his grand sense of humor, he loved this community and was a longtime supporter of the Historic Camden Revolutionary War Site and had served as its Foundation’s Chairman, as well as with the Upton Trio Foundation, Friends of the Library, and Our Lady of Perpetual Help’s Parish Council. He acted as the long-time business advisor for Lugoff-Elgin High School’s Junior Achievement program, and took part in the Parents of SEAGUL. Frank truly loved trains…anything to do with trains…riding or driving, and he was thrilled doing both over the years! A truly unique and warm personality, he is sadly missed by his wife Pat, daughters Jennifer (Chris and fairy-daughter Devin), Jessica (Greg), brother Pat (Marla and son Colin) as well as a large extended family and many friends. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the charity of one’s choice. A funeral mass and Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, October 29 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 1709 Lyttleton Street, Camden, SC at 11:00 AM.
