Obituary of Arthur Joseph Poole

CAMDEN-Funeral service for Arthur “Joey” Joseph Poole, 62, will be held Thursday at 2pm at Hermitage Baptist Church with burial to follow in Hermitage Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday 6 to 8 pm at Powers Funeral Home. Mr. Poole died Saturday, December 1, 2007. Born in Camden, he was a son of the late Arthur J. Poole Sr. and Helen Feagin Poole. A graduate of Camden High School, where he was a track star and held the long jump record for thirty years. He served four years in the United States Air Force. He was an accomplished musician and was formerly a member of the Blue Condition Band, Juliette Hart and the Heart Breakers, and Southern Gold band. Mr. Poole enjoyed snake and arrowhead hunting, bike riding and hiking. Surviving are his wife, Carolyn Hayes Poole; son, Jason Stansel of West Columbia; daughters, Stefanie “Beth” Poole of Elgin, Melissa “Missy” Matheus (Francisco) of Ecuador, Heather Smith (David) of Columbia; sister, Myra Poole Watkins (Philip) of Rembert; brother, Edward “ Eddie” Poole (Paula) of Camden; grandchildren, Dayne Jones, Karis Bird, Melissa Matheus, Gabriel Matheus, Carla Matheus, Briana Matheus, Julianne Smith, Isaac Smith, Isabel Smith.
