Obituary of Charles St. Andrews

Lugoff – A small family service will be held at Powers Funeral Home, 832 Ridgeway Rd, Lugoff, SC on Saturday, September 24th at 5:00pm, with Rev. Michael Leonhardt officiating. A graveside service with full military honors will be held at a later date in 2017 at his family plot in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Ticonderoga, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to www.fisherhouse.org. Mr. St. Andrews, 85, of 15 Training Track Dr, Lugoff, SC, previously at 39 Black Point Rd, Ticonderoga, NY, passed away on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at Palmetto Health Richland Hospital, surrounding by his family. Survivors include his wife of 56 ½ years, Kitty St. Andrews and his 5 children, Jean (Craig) Moore of Summerville, SC, Jenny Mills (Steve Jones) of Ridgeway, SC, Jerry (Wendy Webster) St. Andrews of N. Charleston, SC, “Chopper” (Aimmee) St. Andrews of Lexington, SC, and LTC John (Sally) St. Andrews of San Antonio, TX. He was known as “Paukie” by his very first grandchild, Jason (Jenny) Gilbo of Lugoff, SC. He has 9 other grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. His other survivors include his 10 siblings. He was the oldest of 17 children. Special mention to brothers, Richard (Patricia) St. Andrews of Scotia, Robert (Katie) St. Andrews of Greenfield Center; and sister, Raydene St. Andrews of Holly Springs, NC. “Sonny” as many have known him as, retired from International Paper Company in 1991 after 23 years of service. He retired from the United States Army after serving more than 20 years. He is a veteran of both Korean and Vietnam Wars, serving as both a combat medic and a licensed practical nurse. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #224, Ticonderoga, NY, Veteran of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans. He was the driving force behind the planning and construction of Ticonderoga’s Veterans Memorial. Special thanks to the family of the late Art & Bonnie Watrous, who cared for them while they resided in Ticonderoga, NY, especially Tina Watrous Sharrow.
