Obituary of Eldridge Harold Truett

LUGOFF – A service to celebrate the life of Eldridge Harold Truett, 87, will be held on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Wednesday 2:00-3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to KershawHealth Hospice. Mr. Truett passed away on Monday, September 19, 2016. Born in Bishopville, he was the son of the late Pierce John and Audrey Odom Truett. He served in the 43rd Engineering Construction Battalion attached to the 8th Army in the occupation of forces in Japan. While in Japan, he attended AFWESPAC Engineering School. He served nine years in the National Guard and attained the rank of Master Sergeant. Mr. Truett went to work for DuPont as a mechanical designer and retired after 25 years. He also worked for HL YOH as a mechanical designer. He was a self-taught gunsmith and enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing and collecting old bottles. Surviving are his wife of 32 years, Karen Hudson Truett; children, Deborah Truett Nielsen, Jon Eldridge Truett and Tiffany Smith (Chris); and 3 grandchildren, Lindsey Michele Truett, Christopher Duane Smith Jr., and Nicholas Alexander Smith. He was predeceased by a daughter, Pamela Ruth Truett; 3 brothers; and 2 sisters.
