CAMDEN - Graveside service for Robert Purdy Epps, Sr, 85, of Camden, will be held Sunday at 3:30 p.m. in Quaker Cemetery. Memorials may be made to United Way of Kershaw County. Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff, is in charge. Mr. Epps (known as Bob) died Thursday, February 01, 2007. Born in Sumter, he was a son of the late Dr. Carl Belton Epps and Mary Purdy Epps. A veteran of the United States Army, he served in during WW II in France and Germany. He attended Wofford College and the University of South Carolina where he played football and also played football in the Army. An avid football and baseball fan, he was inducted into the Sumter Hall of Fame. Mr. Epps, retired from DuPont. He was a member of Fellowship Outreach Missions Church. Surviving are his children, Diane Epps Anderson, James Purdy Epps, Robert Purdy Epps, Jr., and his wife, Kathy, and William Purdy Epps all of Camden; brothers, Ralph I. Epps and his wife, Pina Mae of Edenton, N.C.; 6 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Carl “Bubba” Epps; and sister, Mary Purdy Epps.
