Obituary of Parker Pruitt
ELGIN – A service to celebrate the life of Furman Parker Pruitt, 87, will be held Saturday at 4:00 p.m. at Blaney Baptist Church. The family will receive friends on Friday from 3-7 p.m. at the home and one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Blaney Baptist Church, 1400 Blaney Road, Elgin, S.C. 29045.
Mr. Pruitt passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Thursday, September 1, 2016. Born in Old Fort, N.C., he was the son of the late Elmer Rudolph Pruitt and Pearl Parker Pruitt. He served in the United States Marine Corp and retired from DuPont. He was dedicated disaster relief volunteer with the American Red Cross. He was a licensed pilot and had his own plane for many years. He also was a high school basketball official for 25 years.
Mr. Pruitt was an accomplished auto mechanic specializing in Volkswagen repair and enjoyed fishing and camping. He was a faithful member of Blaney Baptist Church where he served in many different capacities.
Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Betty Kennington Pruitt; son, Brian Kent Pruitt (Kimberly Turner); daughter, Renee Watson (Jerry); brother, Rev. John W. Pruitt of Oklahoma; grandchildren, Warren Pruitt, Luke Pruitt, Ashleigh Closen and Tripp Laursen; and a great-grandchild, Camden Closen. He was predeceased by his daughter, Caron Pruitt; brother, Elmer Rudolph Pruitt II; and sister, Blanche P. Smith.
