Born in Columbia, S.C., he was the son of John Valbert McKay and Andrea Michelle Klann. Surviving are his parents of Lugoff; brother, Zachary B. McKay; paternal grandparents, Michael Lynn and April McKay, and Allen and Dee Michelsen; and maternal grandparents, Tammy Klann, and David Klann.
