Obituary of Earl Hunter
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of an extraordinary man, Boswell Earl Hunter, on Tuesday, September 29, 2026. Born in Bethune, SC, on December 20, 1941, Boswell was a true servant of the Lord and his community, always ready to lend a hand and uplift others with his warm spirit and genuine kindness. An accomplished Senior Chief/Machinist Mate with the US Military, Earl retired after 22 years of distinguished service, including a tenure on the USS Nimitz. His commitment to service extended beyond the military, as he was an active member of the Disaster Relief for the South Carolina Baptist Association and served as a Chaplain. He was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church in Lugoff and attended Round Hill Baptist Church in Lexington.
Earl was a man of many passions. He found joy in the thrill of drag racing and the freedom of riding motorcycles, but his heart truly belonged to the calm waters where he could spend hours fishing. Earl never missed an opportunity to help others and the special moments he shared with his family were the ones he cherished most. His love for his family was evident in every aspect of his life, and his memory will continue to inspire all those whose lives he touched.
Earl is survived by his wife, Margaret Theresa Murphy Hunter; children, Richard E. Hunter (Myrtle), Christopher W. Hunter (Rhonda Michelle) and Donna L. Maiden (Todd); stepsons, William K. Dennis, John E. Dennis, and Kenneth A. Dennis (Victoria); brothers, Gerald Hunter, Sammie Hunter and Randy Hunter; sister, Elizabeth Wilson; 9 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife of 55 years, Doris Kelly Hunter.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 2, 2026, at 2:00pm in Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, 836 Pine Grove Road, Lugoff, South Carolina, 29078.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Disasters Relief for South Carolina Baptist Association.
