Obituary of Mary Ruby

Mary Lee Mahaffy Ruby, 94, passed away at home surrounded by family on Monday, September 21, 2026. Born in Kershaw County on May 2, 1932, she was a daughter of the late Lee Daniel Mahaffey and Arrie Meadow Kitchens Reynolds. Mary was a member of Gum Springs Holiness Church. 

    Mary had a passion for planting and growing flowers, but her greatest joy was her family and taking care of children. She had a big heart and enjoyed helping others anytime she could. 

    Surviving are her husband, Isaac "Ike" Ruby; children, Gary Leon Bowers (Rita), Elaine B. Huggins, Eugene Bowers, Patsy Barnes (Danny), Helen Hall (Cecil "Shorty), Janice "Jan" Atkinson, Donald Bowers (Allison); sister, Jeanette "Billie" Banks; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, great-great-great grandchildren; and even great-great-great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, Everee Bowers; a son, Willis Clayton Bowers; grandson, Christopher Bowers; sons-in-law, Clarence Atkinson, Wayne Huggins; 5 brothers and 6 sisters. 

     A funeral service for Mary will be held Saturday, September 26, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home with burial to follow in Gum Springs Holiness Church Cemetery. The Rev. Jack Cobb and the Rev. Dean Elliott will officiate. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2-3 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Elain Huggins at 2481 Providence Road, Cassatt, SC 29032.
