Obituary of Cynthia Byrd

With profound sadness we announce the passing of Cynthia Darlene Byrd, who slipped away peacefully on September 20, 2026. Born in Norfolk, Virginia on December 16, 1957, she was the daughter of the late Lugenia Helton.

Cynthia resided in Camden, South Carolina, bringing joy and laughter to those around her through her love of crocheting, crossword puzzles, and reading. Her hands were rarely still, always occupied with making beautiful pieces of crochet or working on her latest crossword puzzle.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Donisa Greene of Darlington, Demetris Baker of Darlington, Pamela Decker (Melvin) of Accokeek, Md., and Lugenia Massey (Dion) of Camden; sisters, Lorraine Holmon and Jannet Graham; 14 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.  She was predeceased by a daughter, Lovenia Helton.

A graveside service will be held for Cynthia Byrd on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at 11:00 am  in Cypress Cemetery in Bishopville, South Carolina. The family will receive friends Friday, October 2, 2026 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home.
