Obituary of Joseph Alexander Hornsby
Surrounded by his family, Joseph Alexander Hornsby, 61, of Lugoff, was completely healed on Saturday, August 22, 2026 and entered into his heavenly home. Joseph is the son of the late Joe and Mildred Hornsby. Joey will be missed by everyone who knew him during his time here. He enjoyed everything with his family and dear friends. To know Joey was to love him. An avid hunter, fisherman, outdoorsman, animal lover, and family man, Joey could always be found busy doing projects around his home or for others. He was also a talented musician and spent much of his time playing his guitar and singing.
He loved being part of his band and entertaining a group in his music barn (Rustic Grove) that he built which displays so much of his wooden craftsmanship. He never met a stranger and offered love, support, and especially prayer to anyone in need. He also loved eating; it was often a joke with family and friends as to just how much.
Joseph is survived by his wife whom he openly and dearly adored, Valencia Dinkins Hornsby. They reunited after 20 years apart, but have a love story that will span through eternities. He is survived by five children. He is so proud of Alex Hornsby (Sam), Abigail Blackwell (Michael), Erika Maxfield (Jack), Ethan Chandler (Rachel), and Addison Munson (Tyler) and his furbaby, Bud. He has nine grandchildren and one on the way: Leighton Maxfield, Logan Maxfield, Parker Chandler, Montana Munson, Everly Chandler, Noah Grace Hornsby, Cora Munson, Kain Blackwell, Goldie Munson and Sadie Jo Hornsby due in December. Joseph is so proud of the accomplishments of each of his children and grandchildren. Spending time with his wife and cousins group became one of the most important activities the last few years and he looked so forward to each gathering, especially the mountain trips. Joseph spent his career at Invista (formerly Dupont in Lugoff) and had the best of work buddies who also became like family. They will all miss him tremendously. Joseph will also be missed by his in-laws, Oree and Lana Dinkins, whose home is where he enjoyed time talking about the old days and always loved learning more about his ancestors and family tree.
This world will never be the same without Joseph Hornsby to his family and friends, but we have peace in knowing where he is because of his great faith in Christ and his open willingness to always share that love. Joseph would always remind others, even when going through his hardest health trials here that you don’t have a testimony without a test. Though his cross may be heavy to carry, he could do it because of the one who carried His cross so long ago for us. The family wishes to extend gratitude to all the family and friends who have been close, especially the past few years. We love you so much. We find peace in knowing that Joseph’s final wish of coming home was granted.
A Celebration of Life gathering will be held at his music barn “Rustic Grove” on Tuesday August 25, 2026 at 5:30 pm. At the request of the family, please wear Joey's favorite color Green.
In lieu of flowers, Joseph would ask that you simply pray for those you feel inspired to.
