Obituary of Dorothy Ann Tolbert

With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Dorothy "Dot" Ann Tolbert, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Born on September 1, 1939, in Bishopville, SC, and a resident of Camden, South Carolina, Dorothy passed away on August 20, 2026 at her home surrounded by family. She was a woman of boundless strength and love, who graced this world with her presence for 87 beautiful years. 

She was a faithful member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, where she enjoyed singing in the choir and serving on the food committee. Dorothy's heart held an unending love for her family, cherishing her roles as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother above all else. 

Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Deborah Hahula (James) of Cassatt; son, Jimmy Tolbert (Evette) of Camden; sister, Jean Hoopengardner of Camden; 5 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.  She is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Henry F. Tolbert;  Alvin Blease Tolbert and Louise Hopkins Tolbert; son, Rodney Tolbert; and sisters, Betty Lucas and Cecile Ross.

A celebration of life service will take place on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at 2:00pm at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 1643 McRae Road, Camden, South Carolina, 29020 with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 22, 2026, from 5:00 - 7:00 pm at Powers Funeral Home located at 832 Ridgeway Road, Lugoff, South Carolina, 29078.
