Obituary of Joel Pitts Hough

Joel Pitts Hough, born on March 29, 1953, in Camden, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Harold Woellner Hough and Mary Elizabeth Pitts Hough. He lived a life filled with simple joys, finding contentment in caring for his rabbits, and assisting at the family farm, and the companionship of his family. His journey on this earth concluded on July 30, 2026.

 

A proud veteran, Joel served in the United States Army, demonstrating a character marked by resilience and bravery.He earned a marksmanship certificate while at Fort Hood.  Following his service, Joel found solace in helping on the family cattle farm, where he spent his days tending to the cattle that had been in his family for generations.

 

Surviving are his brothers, Albert Harold Hough (Angela) and George Jetter Hough; sister, Mary Louise Robinson (Heyward); sister-in-law, Olga Hough; nephews, Eric Christopher Robinson, Nathan Kirkland Robinson; and Jacob Richard Hough, nieces, Cailyn Elizabeth Hough and Rebecca Claire Hough.  He was predeceased by his brother, Richard Wesley Hough and nephew Paul Heyward Robinson.

 

A service to honor Joel's life will be held on Thursday, August 13, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. in Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia, South Carolina.  The Rev. Stephen Jordan will officiate.
