Obituary of Lewis Grant

Funeral services for Lewis Grant, 83, will be held on Sunday, July 26, 2026 at 1 p.m. in the Powers Funeral Home sanctuary with burial to follow in the Old McGraw Church cemetery (1100 Old McGraw Road, Eastover, SC). The family will receive friends from 12pm - 1pm at the funeral home.

Mr. Grant passed away July 21, 2026 at MUSC Health Kershaw Medical Center after a very brief illness. He was a graduate of the Lower Richland school system and spent a large part of his life supervising the development and maintenance of some of finest golf courses in Columbia, Greenville and Hilton Head. His undisputed “third child” was Spring Valley golf course, where he worked until his retirement.

Man of few words but many talents, he was an award-winning wildlife artist and one of the few men who could cook as well as his wife. A skilled hunter and fisherman, he was as equally at home inside the house as he was outside the house. He loved spending time in the woods and swamps of the state and was rarely caught without an annual vegetable garden.

Surviving are his wife of more than 52 years, Lillie Mae Grant of Lugoff; sons Matthew Grant of Lugoff and Mark Grant of Charlotte, NC; brother James (Carolyn) of Pontiac, grandchildren Deaizha Grant of Manitowoc, WI and Laken Grant of Lugoff; and numerous special nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by siblings Lula Grant and Dorothy Grant and his parents, Aaron and Alberta Grant.
