Obituary of James Nathan Knappenberger

On July 10, 2026, James Nathan Knappenberger, a beloved husband, a skilled assembler, and a man of unwavering faith, passed away peacefully. Born on October 22, 1951, in Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Harold Knappenberger and Mildred Whistler Knappenberger.

James was a devoted member of the Elgin Congregation Holiness Church and the American Legion Post 17, fitting outlets for his deep faith and his deep respect for service. His work as an assembler for Mack Trucking, where he served until his retirement, was testament to his commitment to the community and his respect for hard work. A proud member of UAW, he embodied the spirit of unity and support for his fellow workers. His hobbies, which included fishing, woodworking, and small engine repair, were a reflection of his love for the simplicity and intricacy of life. 

James is survived by his loving wife, Rosann Ethel Super Knappenberger, with whom he shared a beautiful life since their marriage on March 28, 1977. Also surviving are his sons, Nathan Knappenberger of West Columbia and Kenny Knappenberger (Rachael) of New Port News, Va.; daughter, Crystal Knappenberger (Christopher McGeady) of Lugoff; sister, Sidney Twining of Allentown, Pa.; brother, Tommy Howard of Allentown, Pa.; and grandchildren, Tejiri Brayden Knappenberger. He was preceded in death by his brother, Kenny Howard. 

A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 20, 2026 at 1:30 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home with burial to follow in Fort Jackson National Cemetery.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.  Memorials may be made to the American Legion Post 17 or Wounded Warriors.
