Lenora Denice Counts Sinkler Obituary

Lenora Denice Counts Sinkler, was called home to be with the Lord on Friday, June 26, 2026. Born on November 19, 1955, in Columbia, SC, Lenora was a beacon of warmth, care, and intelligence that touched countless lives in her 70 years on this earth.


Lenora was a woman of formidable, intellect and drive. She embarked on her journey of higher education at the age of 16 at the University of South Carolina, where she excelled academically and socially. A proud member of the Sigma Gamma Row Sorority, she graduated with a bachelor's degree in Psychology  and continued her education at Duke University. Her professional life mirrored her academic achievements, where she diligently served in the insurance sector at Blue Cross Blue Shield from which she retired. Lenora wasn't just defined by her career; she was a woman of diverse interests. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life, such as reading a good book or bowling with friends and family.


Her spirit of service extended beyond her professional life. A pillar of the Mt. Prospect United Methodist Church in Lugoff, SC. She was a Sunday school teacher, a member of the building fund committee, and a passionate advocate for biblical education. Her devotion to her faith was clear in the way she lived her life, always putting others' needs before her own. Lenora's love for people was at the heart of everything she did.


In the words of Maya Angelou, “I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” Lenora Denice Counts Sinkler was a living embodiment of these words.


Lenora is survived by her son, Mark Sinkler; chosen daughter, Melinda Richardson; Siblings, Vernon Counts, Anthony Counts (Doris) and Tammy Belton (Henry); grandchild, Malachi Sinkler; uncles, Ronald Bracey, Theodore Parker and Booker T. Counts (Linda) and aunts, Roxanne "Roxie" Counts and Frances Counts; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. 


A memorial service to celebrate the life of Lenora will be held on Monday, July 6, 2026, at Mt. Prospect United Methodist Church in Lugoff, SC at 12:00 pm. With an inurnment to follow in Fort Jackson National Cemetery in Columbia, SC at 2:00 pm.
