Annie Lee Pettus Truesdale Obituary

Every morning Annie Lee would laugh and say, “well I didn’t fly away,” but on Wednesday morning, May 27, 2026, she finally flew into the arms of Jesus. She could not wait to go to heaven. She was 102 years, 7 months, and 29 days old.

On September 28, 1923, Annie Lee Pettus was born to Walter Clyde Pettus Sr. and Margaret Ithane Galloway Pettus in Camden, South Carolina. She attended Camden High School graduating in 1940. She joined the Navy November 4, 1943, and was assigned to Washington DC as a WAVE.  She was honorably discharged March 11, 1946, at the rank of Yeoman Second Class.

Soon after being discharged, she met and fell for William Clyde Truesdale, they were married in Camden on December 25, 1946. She and Clyde quickly added William Clyde “Sonny” Jr. (1948) and Patricia Ann “Patty” (1949).  They made their home in Lugoff and became faithful members of Lugoff First Baptist Church. Annie Lee worked for the Kershaw County Clerk of Court Office and was stolen by attorneys Henry Savage and Ed Royall at the Savage Law Firm where she stayed for 33 years. She made many beautiful friendships and gained great respect throughout the legal community as “Mrs. T.” She is credited with “training many attorneys.”

She and Clyde took many trips with Christian Tours enjoying retirement. She was faithful to her women’s group fondly called the “Meet & Eat” group. She became a busy grandmother with duties that she loved, like feeding her grandchildren and driving them to all their activities. She was the self-appointed historian for Clyde’s family; after all, there were 10 siblings on his side, and on Wednesday she closed the chapter on that generation. She had a long and faithful life. She was a prayer warrior and never hesitated to call the 700 Club for more prayers.  She was an avid reader and loved the quiet of home.

Those left to remember her are her children William C. “Sonny” Truesdale Jr. and wife Sherry of Albany, GA, Patty Truesdale Sprinkle and husband Jerry of Camden.  Her grandchildren are Tiffany Sprinkle Hornsby (Bryan), Drew Sprinkle (Nicole), Justin Sprinkle (Laura), Zachary Truesdale (Misty) of Leesburg, GA, and Adam Truesdale (Casey) of Trussville, AL. Her great grands are Tristan Sprinkle, Liam Sprinkle, Tucker Hornsby, Alex Hornsby, Taylor Thompson (Josiah Altieri), Annabel Truesdale, Landon Truesdale, Alex Jones, and Eli Patterson.

She was predeceased obviously by her parents, by the love of her life William Clyde Truesdale Sr., her brother Walter Clyde Pettus, Jr., and all of her Truesdale brothers and sisters-in-law.

The Visitation will be Saturday from 5-7 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home.
