Clara Mae Turnage Avery, age 81, of Lugoff, South Carolina, peacefully passed away on May 24, 2026.

Born on February 24, 1945, to Louis and Hattie Mae Turnage in Bath, North Carolina, Clara grew up with a deep love for family and a passion for basketball. She later went on to a dedicated career in manufacturing with John Deere.

Clara was best known for her fierce love for her family, her sharp wit, and her beautiful yard, which she took immense pride in tending. Above all, she was incredibly proud of her grandchildren, and she cherished every moment she spent with them.

She is survived by her brother, Robert Turnage and his wife Donna, along with their children Kim Keith, Clay Turnage, and Olivia Byers. She is also survived by her devoted children: her son Rick Avery and his wife Jill, along with their children Jackson, Reid, and Pierce; and her son Bob Avery and his wife Susan, along with their daughter Grace.  Clara was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Hattie Mae Turnage; her brother, Louis Turnage; and her sisters, Linda White and Nelda Furlough.
