Jack Clyburn Parker Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of a remarkable man, Jack Clyburn Parker, beloved teacher, coach, and serviceman from Cassatt, SC. Born in Camden, SC on January 9, 1934 he was the son of the late Wade Henry Parker, Sr. and Nanny Core Watkins Parker. Jack was a man of many talents and passions, and his dedication to his community and the lives he touched will not be forgotten.

A gifted athlete and involved community member, Jack was the embodiment of a life well-lived. He excelled on the courts and fields of both Bethune High School and Wingate University, making his mark as an MVP in the County Tournament of 1951. His love for sports continued throughout his life, influencing many as a revered coach for eight memorable years. Jack was a dedicated educator, shaping young minds at Midway Elementary for 19 years, and Blaney Elementary for 5 years. His service to his country in the United States Army as a Medicine Administrative Supervisor from March 4, 1959 - June 22, 1962, further exemplified his selfless spirit and commitment to his country.

Jack was a devoted member of the Beaverdam Baptist Church in Cassatt, SC, where he served as a Sunday School teacher, Deacon, Music Director, and Choir Director. He was not just an active participant, but an inspiring figure who used music to touch souls and teaching to spread the good word. Jack asked that a special thanks be extended to friends Judy, Julie, Margie, Cathy, Pat, Katie, Sonja, for their encouragement when he needed it. He is also grateful for his golfing buddies Jay, Donald, Leon, Wesley, JL, Frank, James, Bill, and John for sharing countless moments with Jack.

Left to cherish his memories are his son, Anthony "Tony" Parker (Erin) of Columbia, SC and granddaughter, Toni Campbell Parker; step-grandchildren, Claire Davis Salisbury and Cooper Railey Salisbury; and his special friend, Trisha Powell; and her family, Tammy Watson (Chris), Teresa Powers (Robbie), Louis Watson, Mary Margaret Watson (Emmett), Gabrielle Miller (Aaron), Allen Powers and Natalie Watson.
