Jimmy Fincher Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of James Alvin "Jimmy" Fincher, who was born on July 23, 1964, in Newport News, VA. A lover of history and a lifelong learner, Jimmy was a beacon of wisdom and resilience in the lives of all who knew him. His journey concluded on May 3, 2026.

Jimmy was a man of service, his commitment to his country was unparalleled. After graduating from Spring Valley High School, he embarked on a journey of duty and devotion, serving in the United States Navy for seven years. His sense of duty did not stop there, as he transitioned to the United States Marine Corps, where he served as a Staff Sergeant for 13 years before retiring. His service record is a testament to the courage and commitment that he carried in his heart.

Away from his professional life, Jimmy was a voracious reader and an avid traveler. His love of history was not confined to books, but was brought to life through his travels. Each destination he visited enriched his understanding of the past and deepened his appreciation for the tapestry of human experience. However, his most cherished companions on this journey were his beloved dogs, Chloe, Ellie, and Abby. Their companionship brought him immeasurable joy and solace.

James is survived by his father, CSM James Arnold Fincher, US Arm Ret'd, (Barbara Fincher); his closest friend, Jose O. Irizarry; and he leaves behind family, friends, and fellow service members who honor his memory.

A private family service will be held in Fort Jackson National Cemetery.
