James Edward Gardner, 84, of Lugoff, SC, passed away on May 6, 2026. Born in Essex, NY, on July 6, 1941, James was a proud and devoted member of the American military community. He served his country bravely as a Master Sergeant in the US Air Force and was a member of the American Legion Post 17.
James, known for his unwavering discipline and commitment, was a war veteran who had fought in Vietnam. He was a man of simple pleasures, finding joy in watching Wheel of Fortune and being an avid fan of Vanna White. James was someone who carried the values of his military service into his daily life, embodying respect, loyalty, and a love for his country.
James is survived by his daughter, Jamie Gardner; siblings, Alan Gardner (Tina), Ellen Carson Margaret Sayward, Jenny Metcalf (John); and his best friend and buddy, Deb Talbert. He was preceded in death by his most cherished wife, Royleen Charita Gardner; parents, Edward and Flora Gardner; and siblings, John Gardner, Edward Gardner, Jr., and Elizabeth Moulton.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at a later date in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. Services will be announced when they have been finalized.
