Catherine Reed Thompson, born October 29, 1948, in Lugoff, South Carolina, passed away on May 1, 2026. Known for her loving nature and unwavering dedication to her family, Catherine lived a life filled with purpose, service, and joy. A lifelong resident of South Carolina, she was residing in Camden at the time of her passing.

Catherine was a gifted seamstress who dedicated many years to working with a local clothing manufacturer before retiring. Her talent extended far beyond her profession, as she lovingly sewed and mended garments for her family and friends. When she wasn’t at her sewing machine, Catherine found joy in keeping a well-maintained home and preparing delicious meals for those she loved. Above all, caring for her family was her greatest passion, which she fulfilled with steadfast love and devotion.

She leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband of 54 years, John Thompson; her sons, John Thompson, Jr. and Michael Thompson (Kyla Whiting); her siblings, Jake Reed (Lucinda), Rebecca Robinson, Louise Anderson, Isabell Butler (Boykin), Sally Hayes, Mary Ann Belton; her grandchildren, Brianna Thompson, Decedric Thompson (Joanie Thompson), Carlei Easterling (Marcus Easterling), Renay Azez (Mina Azez), Lindsei Newton, Kalen Thompson, Jerome Thompson, Jr., Jerica Thompson, and Myla Thompson; and her great-grandchildren, Tyrone Gregg, Genesis Ramey, Isaiah Azez, Jonah Azez, and Julian Rojas; and a sister-in-law, Doretha Reed. She also leaves behind a host of other loving relatives and dear friends.

Catherine was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Nora Reed; her son, Jerome Thompson (Kelly Thompson); and her brothers, Willie James Reed, Jr., Benjamin Reed, and Richard Reed.

A public viewing will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Powers Funeral Home, 832 Ridgeway Road, Lugoff, South Carolina 29078. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM at the funeral home, with burial immediately following at Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery.
