Joseph Gary, Jr. was born on June 30, 1936, in Sumter, South Carolina, and resided in Camden, South Carolina. His humor was the kind that filled rooms with laughter, a testament to his vibrant personality and love for life. Yet, he was also a quiet man, one who found solace in the silence of his own thoughts and the tranquility of his own home.
Joseph was a dedicated man, both in his profession and in his faith. He was a brick mason by trade, a craft he approached with utmost dedication and precision. In addition to his work, Joseph was a fervent believer in God. His faith was an anchor in his life, providing a source of strength in times of storm. He was an active member of Edwards Chapel in Camden, where he was known for his prayers that echoed the strength of his unwavering belief.
Left to cherish his memories are is his sister, Janie Gary Rivers; nieces, Brenda Robinson and Angela Crum; great nieces, Tiffany Fulton, Deniki Bell (Chris) and Cynthia Rubin; great nephews, Harold Robinson, Jr., Quintin Robinson and Marcus Rivers.
He was predeceased by his special companion, Michelle Goodwin; parents, Joseph Gary, Sr. and Janie Miller Gary; brother, Isaac "Buster" Gary; niece, Cynthia Stuckie; brother-in-law, Herbert Rivers; and nephew-in-laws, Harold Robinson and Melvin Crum.
A time of gathering is going to be held on Monday, April 27, 2026 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Powers Funeral Home in Lugoff, SC. With words of comfort beginning at 12:00 pm.
