Wade Hampton Brassell, born on November 17, 1949, in Berkeley County, South Carolina, passed away on April 18, 2026. A lifelong sports enthusiast, Wade was a passionate fan of the gamecocks. His love for the outdoors was reflected not just in his avid support for sports but also in his hobbies of hunting and fishing. Yet, his most cherished moments were those spent with his family, particularly his grandkids. Wade attended Elgin Congregational Holiness Church in Elgin, SC. Wade married the love of his life, Rita Sue Branham Brassell, and together they built a beautiful life. Wade's love for his family, his passion for sports and the outdoors, and his commitment to his community will continue to inspire and guide those he leaves behind.

Left to cherish his memories in addition to his wife are his children, Linda Newman of Elgin, SC, Wade Brassell (April) of Lugoff, SC, Casey Klein (Mitchell) of Elgin, SC, James Brassell of Lugoff, SC and McKeever Brassell of Lugoff, SC; 12 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. 

He was predeceased by his parents, Johnnie Brassell and Esther Mitchum Brassell; siblings, Willis Brassell, Ben Brassell, Leroy Brassell, Dorothy Harris, Tookie Murphy, Alma Morris, Wilson Brassell and Herbert Brassell; and granddaughter, Ciara Brassell. 

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 23, 2026 at 2:00 pm at Elgin Congregational Holiness Church in Elgin, SC. with burial to follow in Brassell Cemetery in Lugoff, SC. The family will be receiving friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
