Charles Tyrone Briggs Obituary

Charles Tyrone Briggs, son of the late William Berry Briggs and Mary Brewer Briggs, was born on March 23, 1948 in Boston, Massachusetts. He departed this earthy life on April 10, 2026 at home surrounded by his family. After High School, Charles enlisted in the United States Army, 1963 until 1966. He was Honorably discharged as a Sergeant. He served in the 82nd Airborne as a Parachutist, stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He served in the Dominican Republic and fought in the Vietnam War.


After the Military, Charles studied Welding. He worked 48 years at various Nuclear Power Plants. Charles hobbies were collecting fish for his aquariums, collecting model trains, cooking, Sci-Fi television and movies, raising flowers and gardening, which was very dear to him. Those left to cherish his memories are his wife, Janie Briggs of 42 years. Children; Ross Picard of Branston, Missouri, Theresa McClain of Worcester, Massachusetts, Taurean Briggs and LaToya Nesbitt of Columbia, South Carolina. Three Grandchildren; Tony McClain and Rakita Hurley of Roxbury, Massachusetts and Josiah Shields of Columbia, South Carolina. One Great-Granddaughter, Allahny Rose McClain and one surviving sister, Carol Hullum of Raleigh, North Carolina. Two Stepdaughters; Sheila and Cynthia McClain of Roxbury, Massachusetts.His brothers and sisters in laws; Vaughn (Beverly) Clinton of Las Alamos, New Mexico, Cindy (Johnathon) Brown of Waldorf, Maryland, James Bernard (Patrice) Clinton of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, Narlin (LaToya) Ramseur of Virginia Beach, Virginia, John Watson and Gwendolyn Watson, both of Hempstead, New York.


Charles was predeceased by his parents, brothers; Fred Ballad, William Billy Briggs Jr., Tony Briggs, sister Rose Marie Saunders, stepdaughter, Alicia McClain, sister-in-law, Mary Clinton and two brother-in-laws, Fred Saunders and John Hullum. He leaves a host of loving Nephews, Nieces and Cousins and a close friend, Kenny Easterling.


 


A funeral service will be held at Powers Funeral Home, 832 Ridgeway Road, Lugoff, South Carolina, 29078, on Sunday, April 19, 2026, at 2:00 pm. The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 18, 2026 from 6:00-8:00 pm at the funeral home.
