As we get older, we continue to see loved ones leave this earth. When this happens, we understand that the loss hurts, but we remember the good times and the memories that make us laugh.
I remember this particular time when my dad, Uncle Moses, Uncle Rent, and I went fishing. We had caught a good bit of fish and were having a great time. Every time we caught a fish, we would attach it to a line by the gills and keep them in the water since we didn’t bring a bucket from the truck.
While we were sitting there, it began to rain hard. Because the area we decided to fish in had very soft sand on the roads leading to the lake, we had to rush to pack everything up. We grabbed all of our gear as quickly as possible. When we started to pull all of the fish we caught out of the water, well… there were only about two and a half fish left on the line. It seemed that a snapping turtle had been eating all of the fish off the line. We just decided to leave them there and let the turtle finish them off.
The rain was picking up, and the soft sand was turning into clay and mud. When we got about halfway down the road, the truck tires began to get stuck. So my dad stopped the truck, and Uncle Moses and Uncle Rent got out to push it free from the mud. All I could hear was yelling and cussing as they struggled to push the truck out of the hole. After what felt like ten minutes, the truck was finally free.
When they came back to the truck, they were covered in mud and still cussing. As a six-year-old, I thought it was the funniest thing in the world.
This is just one of the memories that makes me laugh when I think about my Uncle Rent. I will truly miss him, and I pray for the comfort of the Lord Jesus over our family.
