Douglas Michael Priester Obituary

Douglas Michael Priester, born on November 15, 1944, in Ancón Canal Zone, Panama, was a man of remarkable spirit and unwavering determination. His journey ended on March 29, 2026, leaving a legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew him.

Douglas was an embodiment of dedication and perseverance. After graduating from Florida Southern University, he bravely served our nation in the United States Army as a helicopter pilot during the Vietnam War. His commitment to service didn’t end there—Douglas continued his military journey in the Army Reserves, ultimately retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel.

His life, however, was not all service; he found deep joy in the simple pleasures of the outdoors. Douglas was an avid fisherman and hunter, spending countless hours fishing for shrimp and crabbing along the coast, and “dog driving” with friends during hunting trips. He found peace in the stillness of nature and the camaraderie that came with it. He also channeled his love for the outdoors into his work, owning and operating Bear Creek Feed and Seed in Chapin until his retirement. His life was a meaningful blend of devoted service to his country and a genuine love for his community and the land around him.

Douglas leaves behind his loving wife of 25 years, Ruth Ann Branham Priester; daughters, Laura Scott of Gaston, S.C. and Rachel Rister (David) of Chapin; son, Brent Branham (Jamie) of Raleigh, N.C.; and grandchildren, Christopher Scott, Austin Scott, Autumn Scott, Michael Rister, Elizabeth Rister, Mackenzie Branham, and Emmaline Branham. His parents, Wallace and Marie Priester, preceded him in death; as well as his son-in-law, Charlie Scott.
