Grace Barfield Polk was born on February 13, 1942, in Kershaw County, South Carolina, and lived a life that radiated warmth and love. Her spirit, embodying grace and gentleness, touched all who had the privilege of knowing her. 

Grace found her life's purpose in her service to others. She worked as a secretary at the Clemson Extension, where she demonstrated an unwavering commitment to her duties. Her dedication to her work was only surpassed by her devotion to her faith. A faithful and devoted Christian, Grace found her spiritual home at Calvary Baptist Church in Cedar Creek. Her faith was a beacon of light that guided her throughout her life and in turn, inspired those around her.

Grace's love for life extended beyond her work and church. She found joy in the simple pleasures life offered. Her favorite pastime was spending time at the beach with her beloved husband, James K. Polk, III. Their shared moments became cherished memories that will forever be held dear. 

Grace is survived by her loving husband, James K. Polk, III, sisters, Lucille Brazell, Ruth Blackman, Patricia Sims, and Peggy Jones; brother, Edward Barfield; and a special great-niece, Dalie Hopkins Sims and her son, Cayden. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Willie and Alberta Jackson Barfield; and sisters, Burdette Conyers and Willie Mae Dennis.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at 11:00 am at Pine Grove Baptist Church, 836 Pine Grove Road, Lugoff, South Carolina, 29078 with burial to follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.  

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church or Pine Grove Baptist Church.
