Dr. Mark Carter Obituary

Dr. Mark Stephen Carter, of Lugoff, South Carolina, born on the 3rd of February 1953 in Sendai, Japan, passed away on the 27th of February 2026. Mark, a man of unparalleled creativity, was a beacon of light and strength to his family, friends, and his community. He was revered not only for his service in the U.S. Coast Guard but also for his academic achievements, earning a Master's degree from Marshall University and an EdD from West Virginia University.

Mark's dedication to his country was evident in his 20 years of service in the U.S. Coast Guard, an accomplishment that mattered most to him. He was a proud member of the American Legion, always eager to contribute to his community. But his service did not stop in his professional life; he was also a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. Mark's creative spirit was most evident in his love for music. A talented bass guitar player, he formed a band called Southern Cross, where he shared his passion and created lasting memories.

Mark is survived by his loving wife, Donna Carter; their cherished daughter, Brittany Carter; nieces, Rebekah, Sarah, Jennifer; nephews, Jason, Ronnie, Andrew, Chris; a very special cousin, Timothy Morris of Nashville, TN; Coast Guard buddy, Bryan Beard; and close family friends, the McGee family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Jr. and Jerry Carter; and siblings, Marsha George, David Carter, Drew Carter, and Walter Michael Carter. Mark's life was exemplified by his unyielding dedication to his family, his service, and his faith. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know him.

Services for Dr. Mark Carter will be held at a later date. The family would like to extend a special thanks to their neighbors, Michael and Karen Raper for their care and help during their time of need.
