Lonnie Brazell, born September 17, 1955 in Columbia, SC, passed peacefully on February 26, 2026. A long-time resident of Elgin, South Carolina, Lonnie was known and loved by many in his community. He spent his professional life as a carpenter, working tirelessly to provide for his family and using his skilled hands to create beautiful, enduring works.
Lonnie was a man of many passions. An avid Alabama fan, he was often found cheering for his team, inspiring those around him with his enduring team spirit. He was also a keen golfer, hunter, and drag racer, and he spent many enjoyable hours pursuing these hobbies. Lonnie was also a crucial part of the Elgin Mafia club and played and coached softball for many years, demonstrating his commitment to his community and his love of sport.
Lonnie is survived by his loving wife, Virgie Brazell; his children Lonnie Brazell Jr., Dean (Angela Branham) Brazell, and Amanda Davis; his grandchildren Abby Davis, Drake (Cassidie) Davis, Cade (Alexis Varney) Davis, Carson Peake-Brazell, Bryson Brazell, and Thomas Brazell; his great-grandchildren Suttyn Brazell and Sadie Davis; and his siblings Eugene Brazell and Edward (Jennifer) Brazell. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Louvenia Brazell; granddaughter, Olivia Brazell; and his siblings, Lindsey Brazell, Leroy Brazell, Melvin Brazell, Paul Brazell, Margie Glock, Ruby Meetz, Jessie Brazell, and Rufus Brazell.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 4, 2026 from 6-8 pm at Powers Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at the same location on Thursday, March 5, 2026 at 2:00 pm. Lonnie will be laid to rest following the service at Spears Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, 116 Spears Creek Church Ln, Elgin, South Carolina, 29045. Pastor Don Brittain will officiate.
