Anthony Terrence "Terry" Nitka was born on June 22, 1948, and died at the age of 77. Extremely generous, the first to help a friend in need; he was a kind, giving friend wherever he lived.
During his U.S. Postal career in Albuquerque, NM, he postponed his work in order to return home in Abbington,PA, to care for his elderly father, who otherwise would have been placed in a nursing home, and to help his mother. After his father passed away, Terry remained with his mom until certain she could manage without him.
Following his years caring for his parents Terry returned to NM to resume his career as a letter carrier.
Upon retiring from the Albuquerque Post Office, Terry moved to NALCREST (National Letter Carriers' Retirement, Educational, Security and Training), a retirement community in Central Florida. After living there for a little more than a year, Terry decided to move with a friend to Summerton, SC.
Summerton was near Lake Marion, where he enjoyed the history of the area, learning of the Revolutionary War hero, General Francis Marion, forerunner of successful guerrilla military tactics. General Francis Marion was known as the "Swamp Fox", portrayed in a Disney television production, a show Terry and his cousin, Terese, enjoyed as children. Terry was a lifelong learner who enjoyed history, PBS shows, Discovery channel, and other fine entertainment.
Terry was an avid animal lover. He shared his life and home with two rescue dogs, Waglee and Summer. He walked with them for miles in the early morning coolness through beautiful rural landscapes that included lakes and forests.
His favorite charity was Second Chance Animal Shelter of Clarendon County, located in Manning, SC.
Terry especially enjoyed dining on steak and eggs for breakfast. Pecan Sandies were his favorite cookies but truly loved any pecan desserts, especially the pecan Kringles (flaky Danish pastry) his cousin, Terese, would often send to him from the Midwest.
Anyone who knew Terry was a richer person for knowing him. Terry will be missed by his cousins, nephews, and nieces, and especially his cousin Terese, who was in frequent contact with him over many holidays and visits. We all miss him dearly and will always keep him as a favorite cousin in our hearts.
