Amy Wendell, a beacon of warmth, love, and resilience, passed away on February 13, 2026. Born on July 4, 1948, in Columbia, SC.
Amy was a faithful servant to the Lord. She looked forward too and rarely ever missed a Sunday service at her church, International Praise Church of God. While there on Sunday mornings she would make her rounds kissing and hugging everyone in attendance. Ms. Wendell enjoyed eating especially at her beloved waffle house. She never met a stranger, always the first to reach out or make a friend wherever she went. Her warm personality and hospitable soul will be truly missed by those left behind.
Amy leaves behind her loving daughters, Angela Mathis and Theresa Putrel (Anthony); sisters, Martha Dobson Solaway and Joan Dobson Goings; grandchildren, Dustin, Westley, Zachary, Zoie and Joie; great grandchildren, Ivannah, Isabella and Owen and best friend, Berthenia Pugh.
Amy is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert D. Wendell; parents, Richard Dobson and Essie Ophelia; and son, Richard Allan Sanders; and brothers-in-law, Dick Solaway and Robert Goings.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 23, 2026 at 11:00 am with burial to follow in Fort Jackson National Cemetery in Columbia, SC. The family will be recieving friends the evening prior at Powers Funeral Home in Lugoff, SC from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.
