Belton Mattox Obituary

Belton Mattox, lovingly known as "Manson," was born on October 6, 1943, went to be with the Lord on February 13, 2026 surrounded by his family.  He was born in Ridgeway, S.C. and later moved to Cassatt, S.C. after meeting the love of his life, Betty Sue Ray. He made Cassatt his home and lived there for the remainder of his life.  Manson was a skilled carpenter and owned and operated his own construction business for over 30 years.  He was forced to retire after suffering a stroke in 2007.  But he never let it steal his joy.  He enjoyed trips to the beach, mountains and carnival cruises.  He especially loved slipping dollar bills to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren which reflected his generous heart.  Throughout the years following his stroke, his devoted wife cared for him because of her unwavering love and dedication.  A true testament of, "for better or for worse".

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 62 years, Betty Ray Mattox, who was his rock and the love of his life; children, Tammy Reynolds (Blake) of Kershaw, Larry Mattox (Marie) of Cassatt, and Terry Mattox (Karen) of Cassatt; 9 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Belton and Mittie Rabon Mattox; and siblings, Dorothy Branham, Evelyn Green, Alberta Horton, Christine McNeeley, Lewis Mattox, Richard Mattox, George Mattox, Frank Mattox and Sam Mattox.

A celebration of life service will be held on Tuesday, February 17, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at Cassatt Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.  Memorials may be made to Cassatt Baptist Church.
