John Roderick Carraway, affectionately known as Roddy to his friends and family, was born on July 10, 1946, in Kershaw County, SC. He was a man of humble beginnings, yet his life was anything but ordinary. He walked the path of life with simplicity, gratitude, and unyielding faith.
John was a carpenter by trade, a craftsman who worked tirelessly for his loved ones. He spent many years operating the Roddy Carraway Store on the Mill Village, becoming a familiar and beloved figure in his community. With his trusty dogs by his side, he was often seen strolling the village, earning him the affectionate name "Mayor of the Town".
John was a living testament to these words. His life was not measured in material possessions but in the love he had for his family and his community. He cherished time with his daughter and grandchildren, and it was clear to all who knew him that they were his greatest joy. His faith was steadfast, and he held a deep love for the Lakeshore Church of God. John's family finds comfort in the belief that he was welcomed into his eternal rest with the words, "Well done, thy good and faithful servant."
John is survived by his daughter, Virginia Hall (Michael) of Columbia; brothers, Charles Carraway of Camden, Stanley Carraway of Camden, and Ricky Carraway of Lugoff; sisters, Betty Broughton of Camden and Virginia Rabon of Camden; and granddaughter, Madlyn Hall. He is preceded in death by his wife Ann Peters Carraway; grandson, Bergen Hall; father, Charlie Herman Carraway, and mother, Irene Wooten Carraway.
Services will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lake Shore Drive Church of God.
