Don Anders Obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Alvin Donald Anders, affectionately known as Don, a man of unwavering strength and an embodiment of joy, who left us on January 29, 2026. Born in Windsor, NC, on December 30, 1952, he was the eleventh child born the late Alvin Sherman Anders and Dassie Lee Smith Anders and the only child born in a hospital.  Alvin spent a fulfilling life that overflowed with unforgettable moments.

He spent his professional life as a Planer Operator and Supervisor in the Lumber Manufacturing industry, a role that aligned perfectly with his love for nature and the great outdoors.  He was a man who found joy in the rustle of the trees, the thrill of the hunt, the quiet patience of fishing, and the boundless freedom of camping. His love for racing was no less than his love for playing guitar, a skill that he wore proudly. Don's laughter was most infectious when he was indulging in his favorite chocolate cake, watching 'Ancient Aliens' on the History channel, or taking leisurely walks with his faithful dog, Emmylou. His spark for life was evident in his never-ending enthusiasm for getting his picture taken.

Don was a man who lived life fully, loved deeply, and left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who knew him. He is survived by his son, Alan Donald Anders (Jessica James) of Camden, S.C., his loving daughter, Michelle Lynn Anderson (Anthony Anderson, Jr.) of Columbia, S.C.; sisters, Shelby Martin (Larry) of Kentucky, Ruby Bristo (BJ) of North Carolina, Thelma Briley of North Carolina, Linda Baker (Ron) of North Carolina, and Jane Pruden (Mike) of North Carolina; brother, Robert Anders of South Carolina; grandchildren, Laci Chelle Anderson, Bella Grace Anders, Kaitlyn Marie Anderson, Kyle Jacob Lee Anderson, Kaysen Edward Anderson, Lilly Ann Davis, Violet Marie Davis, and Matthew Gabriel Temple;  great-grandchildren, Kolton Lewis Jackson and Beau Alan Jackson; and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Ann Anders;  parents, Alvin Sherman Anders and Dassie Lee Smith Anders, sisters, Della Lewis and Helen Mulenex;  brothers, Clyde Anders and Harold Anders; brother-in-law, Garland Briley; and sister-in-law, Laura Anders.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, February 8, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.  Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

As we mourn the loss of this extraordinary man, we also celebrate his life and the joy he brought into ours. To paraphrase a quote from Dr. Seuss, "Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened." Don would have wanted us to remember him with smiles and laughter, cherishing the moments we shared.
