TOOKIEDOO, SC-John Leslie Moak, Jr., affectionately known as “Johnny,” was welcomed into the Lord’s presence on January 21, 2026. He was the son of the late Leslie and Kate Moak.
Johnny was raised in Blaney, South Carolina, where he attended Blaney School and later graduated from Lugoff-Elgin High School. He dedicated many years of service and retired from SCANA, formerly SC Pipeline, beginning his career as a welder and retiring as Chief Engineering Inspector, reflecting a strong work ethic and commitment to his profession.
An avid hunter and fisherman, Johnny was a talented and hardworking man who believed deeply in caring for his family. He found fulfillment in working the land on his tractor, welding, picking and finding treasures, and tinkering in his garage. His greatest joy was his family, and he especially cherished his role as Granddaddy, delighting in time spent with his grandchildren. He will be remembered as a father and granddaddy who consistently went above and beyond for those he loved.
Johnny is survived by Carolyn Stockman and their daughter, Joyell Moak Brown, and son-in-law, Eric, who are proudly carrying on Johnny’s legacy of love and devotion to family; and his beloved grandchildren, Cooper, Lave, and Grace Brown, all of Elgin. He is also survived by his sisters Ruth Brown, Nettie Campbell (Junior), Belva Fisher, Jeanette “Curl” Anderson, and Kathy Brown (Harold), along with many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Johnny was predeceased by his siblings Jack Moak, A.T. “Hammy” Moak, and Ruby Jeffers.
Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 27, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. at Highway Pentecostal Holiness Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.
The family extends sincere appreciation to the staff of Pinedale Residential Center for their care in Johnny’s later years, and to MUSC Hospice for their support and compassion.
