CAMDEN – A service to celebrate the life of Shirley “Shirlane” Ann Lawson, 71, will be held at 11am on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at Powers Funeral Home with burial to follow in Cedar Cemetery. 

Shirlane passed away on Saturday, January 10, 2026.  Born in Kershaw County, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Johnny Lawson and Mary Alice Jefferson Lawson. She was educated in the public schools of Kershaw County. As the oldest sibling, she lovingly embraced the responsibility of helping raise her siblings, becoming a strong foundation and guiding light for her family. Shirley devoted many years to domestic work and took great pride in being the matriarch—the true “chef” of her family—always ensuring those she loved were cared for.

She was known for her sassy, outspoken personality, balanced beautifully by a heart of pure gold. Shirley’s faith was central to her life; she deeply loved God and found comfort and joy in reading her Bible. Her strength, love, and spirited nature will be remembered and cherished by all who knew her. 

Left to cherish her memory are her siblings, Deborah Lawson, Peggy Simons, Jacqueline Lawson, Sarah Lawson, Virginia L. Johnson (Theodore), Mary Lawson, and John Lawson, Jr.; nieces and nephews, Travis Lawson, Derrick S. Brown, Angel Q. Brown, Cornelius B. Brown, Nicholas Murphy, Hope K. Corbett (Chris), and Joshua Lawson; great nieces and nephews, Zoe Brown, Kaleb Brown, Tamari DuBose, Kilee Murphy, and Aden Field; great-great nephew, Torin DuBose; and a host of cousins, family, and friends. She was predeceased by her sister, Faye Nelson; niece, Kayla L. Lawson and nephew, Brandon Lawson.
