On December 7, 2025, just one day before her 81st birthday, Mary Latham Smith, a beloved mother and cherished member of the Bishopville community, was called home to be with the lord. Mary was born in Greenwood, SC, on December 8, 1944, and spent her life cultivating love and kindness in those around her.
A homemaker by trade, Mary was a gifted craftswoman. She could often be found in her home, hands busy creating something beautiful. She had a particular fondness for flowers and gardening, her home and garden always blooming with vibrant colors. Mary was a devoted member of the New Beginnings Church. Her faith was a guiding force in her life and it shone brightly in her actions.
She is survived by her children, Bryon McClain of Lugoff, SC, Gregory McClain (Cindy) of Cassatt, SC and Donna Martin of Cassatt, SC; grandchildren, April McClain, Rebecca Branham (Austin), Ariel McClain, Richard Martin and Trinity Martin; and great-grandchildren, Ashlynn Prosser, Marina Gordon and Marcus Branham.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Brodus and Frances Latham and her sisters, Glenda Cooley and Grace Abercombie.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 10, 2025 at 4:00 pm at Powers Funeral Home in Lugoff, SC. Rev. Joe Covino will be officiating.
