Alfred “Cecil” Truesdale, Jr, 82, devoted husband, father, brother and friend, passed away after a courageous battle with dementia and heart disease. Cecil was extremely funny, witty and a loyal individual. He touched countless lives with his warmth, his laughter, and his remarkable ability to bring joy to every room he entered.
Cecil retired from E.I. DuPont in 2000, where he served as a technical assistant. His commitment to service, however, extended far beyond his professional life. He was the longest-serving member of the Credit Committee for Mid-Carolina Credit Union and proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and Air National Guard. In his younger years, he coached Little League Baseball and was honored as Coach of the Year for Dixie Youth Baseball.
His hobbies extended to fishing, golfing, gardening and playing music. He was also voted Peoples choice winner of the Kershaw County Arts Center Dancing with The Stars.
He was a constant source of fun, and his presence will be deeply missed by his friends and family.
He is survived by his daughter, Jessica Truesdale Jones (Jamey) of Camden, and his cherished granddaughter, Avery Eliza Williams. He is also lovingly remembered by Tara Parnell Guerard (Russell) of Charleston and Amy Parnell Brunson (Joey) of Sumter; grandchildren Garrett Gamble, Aiken Guerard, Myers Guerard, and Lila Guerard; and his bonus grandchildren Harris, Ashlyn and Jonathan. He leaves behind his sisters Theresa Maples, Vorona “Ronni” Mims (Don), and Dawn Lawrence (J.B.); his brother Donavan Truesdale; his dear mother-in-law Barbara Cobb; and his extended family, Robert, Terri, Donald, Darrell, Derhonda, Rengy, and Ted. And a host of nieces and nephews.
He has now been reunited with his treasured wife, Loraine Ross Truesdale; beloved dogs Charlie and Otis; parents, A.C. Truesdale, Sr. and Ruth Langley Truesdale. Sisters, Paulette Munn and Marsha Spradley.
A special thank you to the MUSC- Hospice Team, Dr. Tallulah Holmstrom, Phillip Hudson with Pinedale, The Senior Retreat and the staff at English Meadows.
The family will receive friends on Monday, December 8, 2025 5:00-6:00 at Powers Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 6:00 pm at the chapel at the funeral home. His burial will take place the following day, Tuesday, December 9, 2025 at 11:00 am in Fort Jackson National Cemetery.
