Dennis Warren Smith died Saturday, November 1st in the loving arms of his dear wife Betty G. Smith.
He was born on April 25, 1948 in Bay Springs, MS. He was the second eldest child of Shirley Skinner Smith and Thomas Dent Smith. He was also the loved stepson of Donald Stanford Paddock after the tragic passing of his father. He joined the military with his lifelong friend, Richard W. Burnes. While on leave in Washington DC, he met his wife, Betty. They spent the next 58 years together as much as possible mostly through letters and Snoopy drawings as a war separated them and celebrated 53 years of marriage this past July.
Those who knew him describe him as humble, self-sacrificing and a true Godly example of love to all he came across. He was dedicated to studying the scriptures and prayer and made it a point to give a bible to those who he thought needed one. He was dedicated to always making those around him feel lighter and more optimistic even in the worst of times. He was known to say that life is never boring and he was right. We would say that it could be a little more boring and it will be without him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Betty G. Smith, his son, Matthew Smith (Erika) and 5 grandchildren: Edwin, Elizabeth, Jayden, Alexander and Wesley. He is also survived by his two brothers and their wives and families: Jerry Smith (Bette) and David Smith (Peggy) from Massachusetts.
He is also preceded in death by his cherished daughter, Kelly Smith, his older sister, Karen Tremblay and his lifelong friend, Richard W. Burnes.
Services will be held privately for the family and honored guests at a later time. In lieu of flowers or gifts to the family, they request that you make a donation to the American Heart Association as their efforts gave us 31 precious years with our beloved father, husband, brother and friend.
