Robert (Bobby) Louis Benchoff, age 84, died Wednesday, October 29, 2025.  Born Sept. 9, 1941, in Fredericksburg, Va., he was the son of Robert Frederick Benchoff and Gertrude Lafoy Benchoff. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Laura Jane Benchoff, and one brother Ronald F. Benchoff.

Mr. Benchoff was raised in Thornwell Orphanage in Clinton. He attended Greenville Tech and worked in the printing business. Mr. Benchoff served his country in the U.S. Army with his twin brother Ronnie. Bobby had a sweet soul with a big heart. He loved to be with friends at Thornwell numerous times annually and his time in Columbia on holidays with his nephew and family. He was an accomplished artist, a skill he learned at Thornwell, and several of his paintings adorn the walls of the campus buildings today. Bobby passed on to heaven with family at his bedside. He wanted to make sure all his friends and family knew that he was a believer and follower of Jesus, and he was excited and ready to go home to heaven.

Surviving is niece Susan Roche of Loris, SC, and two nephews Charles (Chuck) E. McClure Jr of Daniels Island SC, and Rodney A. McClure (Judy and Zachary) of Columbia SC.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November. 8, at 2 o'clock, at Thornwell home small chapel, 302 S Broad St in Clinton SC. officiated by Pastor Ralph Schneck of First Baptist Lexington SC.

A private burial will be at Mountain Creek Baptist Church Cemetery on Highway 253 North, Greenville SC. Bobby at his request, will be buried beside his twin brother Ronnie.
