Marcus D. Mann, Jr. Obituary

Marcus Delus Mann, Jr. , was called home on October 27, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of service and dedication. Born in Sumter, SC on August 9, 1946, he was the son of the late Marcus Delus Mann, Sr. and Frances Elizabeth Godwin Mann.


Marcus was a pillar of his community, dedicating much of his life to service. As Former Director in Social Services, Marcus worked tirelessly to uplift the lives of those around him. His dedication and unwavering commitment to service were evident not only in his professional life, but also in his personal life. Marcus was a faithful member of the Lugoff First Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and Director for Stewardship. His faith was a guiding force throughout his life, and he found great joy in his involvement with Gideons International. Outside of work and church, Marcus was an avid reader and skilled woodworker, finding solace and creativity in these pursuits.


Marcus was a proud graduate of USC, earning both his Bachelors and Masters degrees. He was a lifelong learner, always eager to expand his knowledge and understanding of the world. His academic achievements were a reflection of his work ethic and dedication to personal growth.


Marcus is survived by his beloved wife of 12 years, Brona Cates Hanson; son, Marcus D. Mann III (Jill) of Camden, SC; daughter, Caroline Mann Gross (Shelby) of Lake Wateree; step-son, Thomas Hanson Jr (Elizabeth) of Marietta, GA;  and grandchildren, Colemann Gross, Manning Gross, Kelley Jarvis, Mamie Konzal (Jeff), Rush Morris, Carolina Hanson and Camille Hanson; 6 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and extended family.  Marcus is preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Caroline Rose Mann; and sister, Elizabeth Mann.


A funeral service honoring the life of Mr. Mann will be held on Friday, October 31, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Lugoff First Baptist Church in Lugoff, SC., with burial to follow the service in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday, October 30, 2025 from 6:00 -8:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home in Lugoff. 


Memorials may be made to Lugoff First Baptist Church or Gideons International or Billy or Graham Association.
