ELGIN – A time of gathering to celebrate the life of Ellen J. Chestnut, 73, will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at Powers Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Mrs. Chestnut passed away on Friday, October 17, 2025.  Born in Teaneck, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Susie Bell Chestnut. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, and loved to travel, loaf, and shop. Mrs. Chestnut was a loving mother and enjoyed arguing with her twin, her granddaughter, Dakatur.

Surviving is her daughter, Thiopia Bowman Stack (Darrell); grandchildren, Dakatur Stack and Cameron Hopkins; and brother, David Chestnut.
